Volunteers

LVWA has several volunteer opportunities available:

Tutor
One-on-one, small group, and classroom tutors in reading, writing, math, English language, computers, and citizenship.
Prior teaching experience is helpful, but not necessary.

Assistant Tutor
Provides support to lead tutor in a classroom setting.

Campaign for Grade-Level Reading
Assist with outreach events or serve on a work group committee.

Leyendo Juntos
Assist with story times, Laundromat Reading Circles, and other events geared toward Spanish-speaking families. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus but not necessary.

Special Events/Fundraising
Assist with the coordination, planning, and logistics for various events.

Winchester Little Library Volunteer Opportunities
1. Construction – The actual building of Little Libraries and participating in the setting up process.

2. Maintenance – The maintaining and preserving of established Winchester Little Libraries.

3. Book collection & delivery – The collection of donated books, stamping and sorting of collected donations, and restocking of Winchester Little Libraries.

Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center: providing adult education and literacy resources, publications, and training for teachers of adults in Virginia.

Virginia Department of Education: provides extensive information on adult education in Virginia.

National Resources

ProLiteracy: a national organization providing literacy instructional materials and support.

New Readers Press: the publishing division of Laubach Literacy which provides products and materials for order.

Literacy Information and Communication System (LINCS): a professional learning community for adult educators that provides access to resources, professional development, and a connected network of practitioners.

National Center on Adult Literacy: engages in cutting edge and high-impact research, innovation, and training in adult education and technology, as well as in other areas of adult basic education and literacy. Provides a comprehensive database of publications generated.
