Mission

Our mission at Winchester Little Libraries is to advance literacy throughout lower-income areas of Winchester by the use of community space.

Vision

We envision a future where reading opportunities and materials outweigh literacy issues. We believe that providing reading materials in low-income neighborhoods through pocket libraries will have a direct impact on raising reading levels and encouraging lifelong readers. Our goal is to place pocket libraries throughout Winchester by partnering with:   Year 1 (2022): City of Winchester through Winchester Parks and Recreation, Winchester Public Schools, Civitan International, and I Can 2   Years 2-4 (2023-25): Westminster Canterbury, Civitan International, I Can 2 to local business as well as financial support from local businesses.   Currently, Winchester Little Libraries partners with nonprofits: Civitan International, I Can 2, Westminster Canterbury, Winchester chapters of The Boy Scouts of America (Winchester Branch), and The Girl Scouts of USA (Winchester Branch) to create a sustainable model for the design and construction. As educators, we are interested in providing our City’s youth and adults meaningful learning experiences that are connected to real-world problems by implementing a Project-Based learning model, a pillar of Winchester Public Schools’ instructional design curriculum. Our youth and adults will engage in the foundational skills of the 5 Cs: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and citizenship.
