Literacy Volunteers Winchester Area (LVWA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Allison Mondell as Interim Executive Director, effective August 1st.
Allie brings a wealth of experience in family literacy advocacy and community engagement, having served as the program coordinator for the Campaign for Grade Level Reading within the organization.
In her role, she demonstrated exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to improving literacy outcomes in our community. Her strategic vision and dedication to educational equity have consistently driven positive change, making her an ideal candidate to lead LVWA during this transitional period.
“Since Allie joined the team last year, she has been an integral player in the growth and success of the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. I know the whole organization will continue to flourish under her leadership and she will bring a sense of calm to the transition,” stated Andy Gail, outgoing Executive Director.
“We are proud of all the work the LVWA team has accomplished with Andy at the helm and know the organization will be in great hands with Allie leading while we search for the next permanent Executive Director,” said Corey Seymour, Chair of the LVWA Board of Directors. “Her expertise, dedication and work ethic made her the perfect choice as interim.”
Mondell has over 5 years of experience in the non-profit sector, including project management, development, communications and marketing, and advocacy. She holds a BA in Mass Communications from the University of South Florida and a minor in International Studies.
“I am honored to lead Literacy Volunteers during this time of transition. Together with our dedicated team, we will continue our commitment to serve our community. I look forward to building on our past successes and positioning LVWA for future growth.”
During her tenure, Allie will focus on:
- Maintaining and enhancing LVWA’s core literacy programs
- Strengthening community partnerships
- Ensuring organizational stability during the leadership transition
- Supporting the board in the search for a permanent Executive Director
Literacy Volunteers Winchester Area has been serving the community since 1985, providing affordable, confidential tutoring and classes to adults seeking to improve their reading, writing, and English language skills along with the most recently added family literacy component through the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. The Campaign offers services to our younger community members through programs like Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Winchester Little Libraries, and support services to Winchester Public Schools.

Literacy Volunteers mission is strengthening our community through literacy, education, and advocacy. The vision of Literacy Volunteers Winchester Area is that every community member will have the literacy resources they need to participate fully in society and be an inspired community of lifelong learners. We provide one-on-one and small class tutoring for adults in the areas Adult Basic Education skills, English Language Learning, Computer skills, and Citizenship preparation. We partner with Just Neighbors who offer low-cost, family-based immigration legal services.
